Difference between Academic and non-academic writing

Writing skills are an important part of communication. Good writing skills allow you to communicate your message with clarity and ease to a far larger audience than through face to face or telephone conversations. Research writing helps in elaborating the knowledge by bringing new ideas to work on. The strength of the research is to increase understanding of the different issues related to the topics. Well, the organized way of putting the work on a topic arranged by keeping it to the study work.


What is Academic Writing?


It can be defined in innumerable definitions but simply one can say…


Academic writing is clear, concise, focussed, structured and backed up by evidence. Its purpose is to aid the reader’s understanding.


It has a formal tone and style, but it is not complex and does not require the use of long sentences and complicated vocabulary.

Each subject discipline will have certain writing conventions, vocabulary and types of discourse that you will become familiar with over the course of your degree. However, there are some general characteristics of academic writing that are relevant across all disciplines.

Thus, academic writing contains something unique and clear cut formal style which distinguishes it from academic writing.
