English Language Teaching 1

Hello friends,

Nowadays technology, information and knowledge explosion have led to the increase of teaching and learning English as an international language. Teaching and learning English in different countries have been faced with some problems. Teachers and students have lost their time and costs and most learners have not used their precious life in learning English and as a result it has had adverse effects on people's lives. Due to the deficiencies that exist in language teaching and despite the efforts, the desired result cannot be achieved,so it can be said that English teaching has a decorative aspect and it has no academic consequences.

This blog argues about the problems of English teaching and learning in students by answering four different questions related to ELT.

Learning English as a second language has long been of interest for teachers and educators. Everyone has tried to reduce the obstacles and difficulties in learning English. But unfortunately, few people are able to reduce these problems. Many students and teachers of English Language have always encountered with problems that did not made the full learning of this language. As the facts and evidence show, our students have difficulty in learning English at different levels of education and always complain about its unclearness.

Basically the problem occurs when we do not learn the basic principles of something.

This issue may happen in everything and when we refer to its origin we see that all the problems can be resolved.

Generally, English is used among Indians as a 'link' language and it is the first language for many well-educated Indians. It is also the second language for many who speak more than one language in India.

The English language is a tie that helps bind the many segments of our society together.

(1)What is the role of English Language in India according to you with reference to any one essay discussed in the class?

Teaching English as a second language is one of the most rewarding careers you could have. It’s an opportunity to exercise your teaching skills, immerse yourself in an exciting culture, meet new people from all over the world, and travel to countries you’ve never visited. As with any teaching job, teaching English as a second language is not without its challenges.

(2) What are the challenges you faced while learning English Language as?

The most common cause of the problems faced by me of the English language as a second language is existence of the inherent structure of their first language or mother tongue that they are exposed to since the first day. As such the problems that are faced by the students trying to learn the language are-

1. Understanding the grammar structure of the new language.

2. Pronounciations or the inability to understand or comprehend new  words.

3. Most often students use the translation method to understand the second language, in this case English

3. Again they think of the reply in their mother tongue first and then form a reply by translating.

4. Vocabulary becomes a huge problem.

English is not a phonetic language, meaning I often do not say a word the same way it is spelled.

 For example,

“I will read the book today,” and “I read the book yesterday,” are spelled the same way but pronounced differently. There are numerous words like this that can be confusing to English learners. These words are known as heteronyms, words with different sounds but the same spelling.

The best way to overcome the challenge of interpreting spoken English is to practice and be fully immersed in an environment with English speakers as much as possible. While we have pointed out many of the challenges in learning the English languages, there are some aspects that make it easier.

While I may not learn to speak English fluently overnight, the important thing is that I don’t give up.

Learning English can be an exciting, entertaining experience.

You will become better and better each day as you allow yourself to make mistakes and learn from them. Soon you will be a professional at writing, reading, and speaking English.

Different students can have different difficulties and problems in learning English. They can make different mistakes in English pronunciation, grammar, orthography and vocabulary usage

Each learner has his own issues but the most common that I felt in my students are the following:-

1. Lack of vocabulary.

2.Grammar .

3.Correct pronunciation.

4.Hesitation in speaking.

If we come to solution it will be easy to discuss it in the same sequence.

1.To improve vocabulary read an English language Newspaper. Reading habit will improve not only your vocabulary but also the sense of making sentences.

2.Gramar is not essential to learn a language but it is very basic to correct your language. Therefore, a Grammar book will be very helpful during the learning process.

3.Listening an English channel will improve pronunciation skills. Some English cartoons are very helpful due to pace of speaking in them. Different characters speak very slow and you can understand every word they speak and it makes easy for you to correct your pronunciation.

4.Speak & speak is the rule to address this issue. Whether you speak wrong or right but don't give up speaking will end shyness which is a big hurdle in learning any language.

The most common cause of the problems faced by a me of the English language as a second language is existence of the inherent structure of my first language or mother tongue that I am exposed to since the first day. As such the problems that are faced by the me is trying to learn the language are-

The above mentioned problems are just a few of other problems but in my opinion these are the major ones faced by students in large even.

Because of the complexity of the English language in general, it is tough to also integrate the teaching of dialects particular to certain regions.

The grammar of the English language is tricky and intricate. Non-native speakers may have difficulty picking up grammatical patterns during speech, and that could lead to a misunderstanding or wrong message being relayed. English grammar has many rules, and with that comes many exceptions to the rules. Because they are not clean-cut, they are difficult to remember and even more difficult to put into action.  Comma rules, pronoun-agreement rules, and plural forms of words have many exceptions and special cases that can confuse any language learner.

(3)Write your reflection regarding the classroom activities. What challenges you faced in doing the activities as teachers.

The present decade and the past century are different from what is known to the history. Very deep and broad changes which have never been seen in the past have affected all human activities and teaching is no more based on the transfer of constant information to passive students.

Minds filled with Inflexible material cannot figure out the present and future complexity and dynamic. Although most teachers and students spent many hours in classrooms to teach and learn the language, they have not had success in this area. Despite a great experience, I have still have not really found what is important in language teaching and learning in the classroom, seems like still I want to make this easier and interesting than this.It should be noted that I taught a set of individuals and any teaching process must enrich the

emotions of both student and teacher.

Teaching English language in a second language context is an enormous challenge for me due to linguistic diversity. The students lack confidence to use English language because they hesitate to commit mistakes and just because of this to get supposed answer from students is equally difficult or say Hard to have.

(4)How do you see your future with the English Language?

I want a profession that will satisfy me, challenge me, and bring me joy. I believe that a job should be like a hobby. I want to love my work, and know that I am making a difference in this world by helping other people. Education and specially English has always been my priority.

English language is very deep and an ocean.

There are a number of different ways of referring to the future in English. It is important to remember that we are expressing more than simply the time of the action or event. Obviously, any 'future' tense will always refer to a time 'later than now', but it may also express our attitude to the future event.

English, as any other language, is a living and dynamic system, and it transforms according to the way its speakers use it.

People using English as their second language, we will see that English language will continue to develop in a similar manner as before, but new dialects, slang, words and perhaps even linguistic variations will evolve

When I close my eyes, I picture myself in a class located in an urban setting, teaching a classroom of diverse yet alike students. These students are in the second grade, meaning that they are impressionable yet vulnerable to their environment whether this means at home, at school, or in their greater community.

These students don’t speak English even as their second language, and some come from low-income households that can limit their educational experiences outside of the classroom. And yet, no matter what differences these students bring to the table, their uniqueness flows throughout the classroom in such a positive energy that embraces, respects, and promotes learning. This is the goal I want to work towards; the goal of inspiring our youth to become self-advocates for their learning.

Although the tests for certification and studies can be difficult, my passion for education and dedication to shaping the lives of students is what will keep me going. The end goal is to nurture the development of students in English language become active and engaged participants in society, and that is what I intend to do completely.

Sky is the limit - With English we can reach anywhere we want in this world…to any university or college or school. But to survive we need the will power to learn more.

If language is taken from the human society, human civilization will be destroyed, thus teaching and learning language is a priority in the field of education. Nowadays, with the advancement of science and technology, English is essential as an international language. So in this new millennium, language is the guiding factor for trading, politics, economy, science and  technology. This will be achieved by the development of English language teaching in a principle manner. Thus, second language teachers and students both need special training to learn how to teach and learn the language.

Thank you.
